Improving Ajit’s quality of life

When Ajit visited the traditional healer about a wound in his inner cheek, the traditional healer applied a paste of roots and bark to the wound. Not realising it was cancerous, Ajit tried to accept the pain that would not go away. That is, until his daughter learnt about cancer at school and realised that might be the problem.  The cancer was too advanced to treat, but our partner's palliative care team were able to relieve his pain, provide ongoing pain relief and other symptom care, alongside emotional and spiritual support for him and his family. Since January our partner, Chinchpada Christian Hospital, has provided palliative care for 148 patients like Ajit with terminal cancer.  Cancer awareness meetings in villages and schools have reached

Stronger Together

People living with HIV Self-Help Groups in Nepal provide valuable peer support to members. They encourage one another  to adhere to treatment, and support each other on hospital visits or when they fall sick.  Monthly meetings are a safe place for them, where they can be themselves, and do not need to hide their HIV status.    The group receives training on managing micro savings and loans, entrepreneurship and how to become a sustainable community organisation.  Our partner helps the group to work with local government, including accessing funding. ‘I used to feel I was going to die soon but since being in the group my desire to live has increased, and I believe I will live’. ‘It feels very different when

Valuable Lessons Learnt in Lebanon

It has been a privilege to have supported SKILD’s (Smart Kids with Individual Learning Differences)  pilot project in Lebanon to develop approaches that help pupils with special needs to continue in mainstream education. Parents and teachers have reported improved in pupil performance and behaviour; Teachers are  better equipped to assess and teach children with learning differences; SKILD learnt more about implementing special education services.  The pilot’s achievements were used to influence the Ministry of Education target to recruit 30 special needs educators to scale up this knowledge and help more schools in Lebanon to improve the wellbeing of children who are at social, emotional and academic risk. Our popular Asian Fusion Charity Dinner
