Twice Gold: Plim-plim saves another life

Thanks so much to everyone who gave so generously to our Twice Gold appeal in October! Your gifts have been doubled by our appeal patrons, and will help twice as many people access vital health care.

Your support will allow our incredible partners to keep helping people like Djibril, a little boy from Chad. When Djibril’s father abandoned their family and left the country, leaving his mother to care for him alone. She struggled just to feed him properly.

Djibril’s mother heard about the malnutrition programme at the Guinebor II Hospital from a friend whose own child had recently been treated for malnutrition. The friend took them along to the hospital, where Djibril was diagnosed with acute malnutrition and admitted to the outpatient programme.

He was given ‘plim-plim’, a peanut paste packed with proteins, energy and micronutrients – a simple but effective therapeutic food. Achta, the programme nutritionist, also advised Djibril’s mother on how to provide a balanced diet for Djibril with locally available low-cost produce. Thanks to the compassionate care of Achta and the rest of the team, Djibril was able to reach his target weight two months later!

MAI has been supporting the child malnutrition programme at the Guinebor II Hospital since 2021. Just last year, the team were able to save the lives of 282 severely malnourished children.

Thank you for your support, which makes life-saving work like this possible.
