South Sudan: “Happy to see a sick child walk home”
Grace was almost unconscious when her parents brought her to the Martha Primary Health Care Centre (PHCC). She had malaria.
She was taken straight to the children’s ward where she was treated intravenously. Thankfully, she was able to go home with oral medication after just two days, and made a full recovery.
“I felt very happy to be able to see a sick child walk home after being very ill,” says Charles, one of the nurses who cared for Grace.

Sadly, not every child is so lucky. Malaria is a leading cause of death in children in South Sudan.
But it shouldn’t be. If more families had access to affordable acute care, many of these childhood deaths could be prevented.
Will you give to help more children like Grace to recover from deadly diseases?
- £60 could pay for treatment for 20 children with the early stages of malaria
- £100 could help provide 70 out-patient appointments
