Courageous commitment in uncertain times
Steve Sanderson, Chair of Trustees, introduces this year’s Annual Review.
Dear friend,
I’m sure you know the story of the man throwing starfish back into the sea. Rather than devising a way of saving all of the stranded starfish he finds, he selects a chosen few to rescue, exclaiming, “I can’t help all of them, but to that starfish, I made all the difference.”
To me, it’s a terrible story. God calls his people to participate in the fundamental redemption of all things, no “starfish” left behind. We are all precious to our loving Heavenly Father. This is why the community health programmes backed by secondary health initiatives really matter – they don’t just help the odd person, but entire communities.
In a changing world, with large reductions in foreign aid, it feels like the tide is going out on thousands of communities around the world. I know that our partners will work tirelessly to ensure that the tide doesn’t go out on their communities. It’s a commitment that we as MAI staff, trustees, supporters and partners want to reaffirm to those we serve in these uncertain times.
This annual review is a summary of all our stories from 2024. Stories of a retreating sea that might have left many with impossible health care costs, but instead they found affordable treatment. Stories of those who felt stranded by despair, but instead found hope, purpose and life in Christ. Stories of how God is still using all of us to change lives through MAI.
I passionately commend our story of 2024 to you – a story that you are a part of.
May God continue to bless you richly,
Steve Sanderson

Thank you for being a part of these stories
A huge thank you to every person who is helping to make the work of MAI possible.
Thank you to those who have given a gift, either as a one-off, a regular
gift, or through fundraising or leaving a legacy. Your gifts are helping some of the world’s poorest people to be able to access vital, often life-saving, health care.
Thank you to those who have prayed for the work of our partners. All of
our partners are Christians, and they rely on God to help them in the many difficult situations they encounter every day.
Thank you to those who are spreading the word. Whether it was sharing a Facebook post, forwarding an email, or inviting someone from MAI to speak in your church, you are helping us to connect more people with our incredible partners around the world.
Thank you to those who have volunteered. From coming on an MAI trip to inspiring your church to get behind MAI, we are so thankful to everyone who has given their time and talents.
Would you like to support MAI in a new way this year?
There are two things we would like to ask you to do:
- If you haven’t already, please set up a regular gift to MAI. This will help us to provide consistent, reliable support to our incredible partners, allowing them to focus more on treating patients and less on balancing the books.
- Invite an MAI speaker to your church. We would love to inspire more people with the life-saving work being done in Jesus’ name by our amazing partners. Email [email protected].
