Chad is one of the poorest countries in the world. While an estimated 95,000 people would benefit from prosthetics and orthotics in Chad, there are currently just six clinicians working in two prosthetics and orthotics centres serving the entire country.
MAI partners at the Guinebor 2 Hospital are already providing affordable quality health care in Chad. Now, two British Prosthetist/Orthotists based at the hospital are planning to set up a new prosthetics and orthotics service to help meet some of this desperate need.
This new service will help people like Ali. He’s an 18-year-old farmer, and his foot had to be amputated after he was a passenger in a bad motorbike accident. He still has his whole life ahead of him, but he is no longer able to work, and doesn’t know what he’ll do to support himself.
But this new service could provide Ali with a prosthetic foot. By next Christmas, Ali could be walking again, working again, and dreaming about the future again, thanks to the generosity of people like you.
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
