Chad: Lives of mother and twins saved
Adama was pregnant with twins when she developed severe pre-eclampsia. This is a life-threatening condition for both mother and baby if left untreated.
Thankfully, Adama had been going for regular prenatal appointments at the Guinebor 2 Hospital (G2). As soon as her pre-eclampsia was discovered she was immediately taken to deliver her twin boys by caesarean section.
This swift delivery, along with regular injections of magnesium sulphate to protect against eclamptic seizures, saved the lives of Adama and her babies.

One in 15 women in Chad will die from pregnancy-related complications. But if midwives are able to give pregnant women ongoing medical care, survival rates drastically increase.
This is why MAI supports G2 to subsidise the cost of treatment – so that even the poorest mother can access the vital care of G2’s midwives and other medical staff.
Will you give to help more mothers survive pregnancy and childbirth, even when they develop life-threatening conditions?
- £60 could fund safe births for four mothers
£120 could provide a midwife’s salary for two weeks
