Great news for Goli!  With the arrival of the Congolese surgeon and the Glostavent anaesthetic machine, the County Health Department has officially recognised our Goli Partnership Project as a Hospital, upgrading it from a Primary Health Care Centre. The County Health Director said: “It is good to see that this machine has come to Yei River County.  I have not seen the other machines at Juba Teaching Hospital (the only other Glostavent machines in South Sudan!)… I am very happy.”

A lady representing the local community said: “Most other communities do not have the health facility that we have.  When people looked at the Mundu, they saw that we are like the least of all but now….they are really surprised and this hospital is here because of what God has done for us.”

In-patient numbers for the first six months of 2012 are up by two thirds, even though Isabu Dhatta only arrived a month or so ago.  The Hospital has even received one patient who travelled 60 miles from Lainya!  “I know surgery has not begun yet but I want the staff to know me and for me to know the place.  I have appendicitis and I need to be one of the first to be operated at Goli!” he said.

MAI Board member, Dr John Gilbert, is in South Sudan right now, providing training and support to the medical team under Isabu’s excellent leadership.
