May 1st saw the soil broken in Embo on the clinic site. With the signing of a formal agreement between the KwaZulu Health Department and Power of God Community Church that secures funding for four medical staff, equipment, consumables and drugs, MAI was able to forward the first tranche of money that will fund the building of the Clinic.
Alex van Greuning is overseeing the building work, using a local team that he has trained previously on other projects. This in itself is an investment into the local community.
But the Clinic will transform Embo. Access to HIV testing and counselling, antenatal care and immunisation programmes will dramatically impact the health of the community. Linking with the ongoing home care provided by the church’s team, health indices should improve significantly. Moreover, the Clinic will be a lasting testimony to God’s love of these marginalised people.
As the pictures show, groundworks and foundations are complete with the concrete slab laid and the first rows of blocks erected. The weather has been good enabling the team to get one week ahead of schedule! It is anticipated that the Clinic should be completed by October and be open before Christmas. What a fantastic Christmas gift the clinic will be for this community!
