MAI’s Board agreed in December 2014 to develop a new Partnership Project in South Sudan. The aim is to restore a Community Health Clinic that was badly affected during the war prior to the establishment of the new nation. It will be rebuilt in Romogi in the Diocese of Kajo Keji, Central Equatoria.
The previous Health Centre was part of a mission compound with a church and school as well. The church and school have been rebuilt under the leadership of the Bishop – Anthony Poggo – who formerly headed ACROSS – a South Sudan organisation committed to holistic community transformation. The last part of the jigsaw is the Health Centre.
The Partnership Project will provide a new building, complete with solar power and borehole, and fund staff over a time-limited period. The aim of this Primary Health Care Unit will be the lowering of maternal and infant mortality in the area as well as advancing health education and disease prevention. The building will provide not only consultation space but house a laboratory and dispensary. These elements will assist with local sustainability. The building will cost in the region of £120,000.
To assist MAI in raising funds, Bishop Anthony Poggo will be visiting the UK from 12 to 23 May. Any MAI Supporter interested in hosting an event with the Bishop should contact John Earwicker on 07766 255221 as soon as possible.
