Dr John Gilbert – Board member of MAI, retired GP and Birmingham University lecturer – is currently in Uganda where he is reviewing the Palliative Care project supported by MAI and providing training to local medical staff. He is expected to meet local health officials to explore nationally available funding. The project is held in high regard by local officials but access to Government funding is proving illusive.

Before arriving in the Ngora district in Uganda, John was able to visit Bishop Taban in Yei, South Sudan. We await his report but he was taken to see a large community of internally displaced persons (IDPs) who have taken refuge in Yei from the ethnic violence afflicting South Sudan. He was also evaluating a variety of healthcare needs so that MAI can consider providing short term assistance.
